Why You Should Join a Fitness Challenge

We're currently planning our next fitness challenge at B-Fit.


We incorporate challenges once or twice per year because they help keep members accountable and accelerate their results.


Most of you reading this have participated in fitness challenges in the past. Regardless of your experience, you probably noticed that the motivation you had at the beginning of the challenge didn't last till the end.


The vast majority of people who try a fitness challenge revert back to their old habits after said challenge is done.


So this begs the question: are fitness challenges useful?


From our experience, we would say that it's worth participating in challenges for two solid reasons.


1. We need all the external accountability we can get to "battle" modern society. Think about all temptations we're exposed to on a daily basis. Processed food ads. Work birthday parties. Social gatherings filled with delicious foods and drinks. Netflix and the couch. It's as if society has conspired against our desires to live a healthy life.


A challenge allows you to build restrictions on your behavior for a specific period of time, making it easier to say "no" to temptations. You can even use it as an excuse for not eating cake at your friend's birthday. "I can't, I'm doing a challenge."


2. It's a way to kickstart a healthier lifestyle. While we mentioned that most people revert to their old habits following a challenge, some people don't. Some actually change their lives for good. These are the folks who realize how good they feel when they replace their unhealthy behaviors with habits that actually contribute to their bigger goals.


Besides these two points, it's fun to participate in fitness challenges. You're making a pact with like-minded individuals who are on the same path as you. You're switching up your routine. Most importantly, you're challenging yourself to become stronger by overcoming obstacles.
